Patient Stories
We feel fortunate to have received reflections from our patients about how Dr. Hefley has helped them. Here are some of our favorites:
Hip
Coach Frank Broyles
"I chose minimally invasive hip surgery because I wanted a quick recovery. And that's what happened. Often I'm asked where did I go, and I use the doctor that I chose for my hip surgery. Dr. Hefley was the only one I knew of in Arkansas that would perform this type of pain-free hip surgery. Dr. Hefley was recommended as a doctor who would do the surgery and I would recover much faster – and I did!" – Coach Frank Broyles
Kelly Coffee
"After years of hard riding, professional horse trainer James Kelly Coffee had injured his hip and needed surgery. Dr. Hefley performed the procedure and got Kelly back to his physically demanding work and lifestyle. Kelly is not only riding and training horses to his full physical ability... he’s also running marathons! Thanks to Dr. Hefley and the rest of the team at OrthoSurgeons, Kelly is back in the saddle and stronger than ever before." – James Kelly Coffee, horse trainer
Mike Masterson
"Looking back, I realize how the hip replacement has enabled me to regain my normal life at 63 years old. I can dance, play golf, take long walks, stand and sleep without pain. Your remarkable, minimally invasive surgery in just a few hours and my overnight stay in the hospital gave me back the life I’d known until that incurable osteoarthritis took hold." – Mike Masterson, Author, Fayetteville, AR One Hip Book by Mike Masterson on Amazon.com
Martha Josey
"I cannot say enough great things about my doctor, Dr. Hefley. One reason I have been so blessed with him is because of the things he has done to keep me riding my horse, and to keep me so active. From working with athletes, such as cutting horse people, ropers, he knows the desires we have to be at our top level. I’m very particular when it comes to my body, and Dr. Hefley is the best." – Martha Josey, World Champion, Hall of Famer, Olympic Medalist, and Barrel Racing Legend www.barrelracers.com
Mrs. Rhein
Mr. Greer
Mr. Bisbee
Joe Beaver
"When it gets to the point of no return, whether you are an athlete, mechanic, or a housewife you will know it is that time. Time for what you ask? Joint replacement! When that time came for me, I researched every avenue possible and 3 names kept popping up in conversation and in articles, so I decided to go with Dr. William Hefley, and boy what a great move that was. I have had a lot of very successful surgeries from two very good friends and very well known doctors, but this was different." – Joe Beaver, 8-time world rodeo champion
Roberta Sheppard Rhein
"Immediately after surgery......NO PAIN! I used a walker for three days and a cane for one week. No rehabilitation was necessary. I am 72 years of age and now have the stamina and ability that I had when I was much younger." – Roberta Sheppard Rhein, Little Rock, AR
J. Mitchum
"Since I had my left hip done by Dr. Hefley in December 2012 I have completed six 25K races, eight half marathons, and one 50k. The left hip has performed beautifully! Now my right hip is ready!" J. Mitchum
Jerry Dynek
"Three years ago I had both my hips replaced and I thought my life as I knew it was over. Everyone on Dr. Hefley’s team said I would recover but I really didn’t think I would recover to the point I’m at now, I’m close to 100% as I can get. The more I do the better I feel and at 61 I’m doing everything I did when I was 41… I ride my bike, water ski, hike, and best of all I’m building my lake house that I’ve been planning for twenty years! I don’t mean I’m acting as a general contractor, I mean that every day I get up, get dressed, drive to Greer’s Ferry Lake and start swinging a hammer. I dug my footings, backfilled my foundation, installed all rough plumbing, and now finishing up on the framing. I never dreamed of owning a new house, I dreamed of building one. Every day, every single day, I amaze myself but it’s not me, it’s because of Dr. Hefley that I am a success story. Thank you! With God's help I’ll finish my house this year (if I don’t fall off the ladder)… Great job to Dr. Hefley and his staff." Jerry Dynek

"Everything went great according to plan. Dr. Hefley did a great job and my shoulder is doing really good ever since." – Kelsey, NCAA division I basketball player
E. Scot Davis
“I had surgery on May 2, 2023, for a torn rotator cuff by Dr. Bill Hefley. I followed his instructions on physical therapy provided by the great staff at Bowen & Hefley Physical Therapy Department and was able to start playing golf again on Labor Day, Sept 4th. Just under 6 weeks after my recovery, I hit my first hole-in-one and I credit Dr. Bill Hefley and the team at Bowen & Hefley Orthopedics for my new shoulder and for a lifelong goal to capture one of golf’s most treasured accomplishments.”
Knee and Stem Cell

Testimonial from Mr. Martin after his stem cell therapy
“I have been involved in Shotokan Karate for over 40 years. During that time I have had my left Achilles tendon repaired, had the meniscus in my right knee worked on twice and in my left knee once. Over the past three years Dr. Hefley and his PA Kenny Weaver have been treating both knees with viscosupplementation injections every six months. The injections helped to a degree, however there was still pain in my knees that limited my activity level considerably.
During the evaluation process for my last visco injections I was told that my knees were candidates for stem cell treatments that Dr. Hefley had started performing with good results. I had the stem cell treatment the first part of June 2016 with the follow up treatment the first of July. All I can say is that my knees have not felt this good in years. Since the treatment I was able to take my 5th degree black belt rank test and I passed! I would definitely do the stem cell treatment again and I have recommended it to friends with knee problems. I only wish that it had been available sooner.”
R. Head, Total Knee Replacement
“When it came time to make a decision about having surgery to replace my knee, I asked a fellow paddler and close friend who happens to be a family-care physician for his thoughts. His recommendation was Dr. Hefley. I can't thank that friend enough.
From initial examination through surgery and follow-up checkups, I could not have hoped for a better outcome thanks to all of the clinical/hospital staff that helped me through the process. Three months later (following my rehab process) I was back on the river where I was able to check off a "bucket list" river when I rafted the Gauley River in West Virginia.
What's not to like about that? Many thanks to those who made it happen!!”
E. Price, Total Knee Replacement
"In the summer of 2011, Dr. Hefley did a total knee replacement on my right knee. I was 87 years old. I didn’t know if Dr. Hefley would do the surgery as old as I was, but he said he always looked at the individual, not the age. He had done a total knee replacement for my daughter a few years earlier, and the outcome had been great for her, so I knew he would do a good job for me.
Now, five years later I’m still able to feed my cattle, cut and rake my hay, brushhog, and do all the other chores required on a cattle farm. I still don’t have any pain in that knee, and it is very stable – really important for a person who will soon be 93!!!!!
I am so thankful to Dr. Hefley and the wonderful staff at Ortho Surgeons for giving me the ability to continue to do what I love to do."
